Two arrested after Salford carjacking outside Black Friars store

Two people have been arrested after a woman reported being threatened and having her car taken outside a shop in Salford yesterday.

Greater Manchester Police said the incident happened at around 11am outside the Nisa store on Black Friars in Salford.

A woman had parked her car and went into the shop. She told officers she had seen a 37 year old woman outside who she believed was begging. After buying food for herself, she gave some to the woman outside before returning to her vehicle.

Police said that as the victim got into her car, the same woman followed her into the vehicle. A 54 year old man then also entered the car.

The victim drove around the corner, where an altercation took place in the street. The two suspects then drove off in her vehicle.

Officers responding to the report located the car within minutes. At about 11.10am the vehicle was stopped in Manchester city centre and both suspects were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The man and woman remain in custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Dan Hayes, from GMP Salford, said, “Intimidation, theft and assault have absolutely no place in our community, and we will not tolerate behaviour that puts innocent people at risk.

“This was a shocking and frightening incident for the victim, and the officer’s quick response ensured both suspects were located and arrested within minutes.

“We remain committed to protecting the public and will continue to take swift, decisive action against anyone who chooses to commit violent or threatening offences.”
