Emergency services responding to early morning welfare concern near Irwell Street bridge.
Emergency services are continuing a search operation after reports that a man entered the River Irwell in Salford in the early hours of Sunday morning, 26 October.
Greater Manchester Police were called at around 3:13am to a concern for welfare on the Irwell Street bridge. A man, described as white, in his 20s, of average build, with short brown hair faded at the bottom, was reportedly seen entering the water.
He was last seen wearing a grey jacket and black trousers.
Detective Inspector Paul Davies from Salford CID said:
“We understand how distressing this situation is. I want to reassure the wider community that officers are working closely with specialist units to find the individual and notify those involved.
“We are dedicating a number of resources to find him, and we are continuing our enquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident.”
Search scenes remain in place around the bridge and nearby riverbanks, and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage from the area around the time of the incident.
