A lively evening on the Manchester waterways saw local legend Darren J Memphis channel the King himself as guests danced, laughed and sang their way through the Royal Naval Association's Elvis Cruise event.
The City of Salford branch of the Royal Naval Association welcomed over 100 guests aboard a City Centre Cruises vessel on 1 November 2025 for an unforgettable evening of entertainment, community spirit and a touch of rock 'n' roll glamour.
The sold-out event featured a full live set from Salford’s own Darren J Memphis, who wowed attendees with a tribute to Elvis Presley that had the whole boat moving. Guests included the Deputy City Mayor of Salford, local councillors, and veterans from across Greater Manchester.
Organised as a social and fundraising event, the cruise highlighted the RNA’s continued commitment to fostering community among serving and former Royal Navy personnel and their families.
A spokesperson for the City of Salford RNA said:
“It was a fantastic night. Darren brought the spirit of Elvis to life and everyone had a brilliant time. We’re so grateful to City Centre Cruises, our volunteers, and all the supporters who came aboard. This was more than a party, it was about connection, shared stories, and lifting spirits.”
Adding to the light-hearted charm of the evening was Salford Sam, the RNA branch’s beloved mascot cat, who made a surprise appearance dressed in a miniature Elvis cape. Photos from the night show Sam perched near the captain's chair, seemingly soaking up the music and attention.
City Centre Cruises was praised by organisers and guests alike for helping the night run without a hitch. The boat crew managed everything from safe boarding to catering, allowing attendees to focus on the celebration.
The City of Salford RNA has indicated plans to run more themed events in the coming year, with a ‘60s Swing Night’ already under discussion.
