Community champions revealed as Salford’s Springboard Heroes finalists announced

Three grassroots projects have been shortlisted for the 2025 Springboard Heroes Awards, showcasing the heart of community spirit in Salford.

Salix Homes has unveiled the finalists for its annual Springboard Heroes Awards, shining a spotlight on some of the most inspiring community-led initiatives in Salford.

The housing association has awarded over £33,000 in grants this year through its Springboard community fund, which supports local groups aiming to improve lives, boost wellbeing, and strengthen neighbourhood connections. The finalists, chosen from dozens of funded projects, now go head-to-head in a public vote for a £1,000 bonus award.

The three shortlisted finalists are:

  • Alberts of Salford – A vibrant, inclusive sports facility based at Albert Park in Lower Broughton. It welcomes more than 600 people every week, offering a safe space to play sport and boosting both physical and mental health.
  • Red Hot Flames – A cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics group empowering young people. The group regularly competes on the international stage and is praised for building confidence, resilience, and teamwork through sport.
  • Salford City Radio – A volunteer-run community radio station offering a platform for local voices. Facing an uncertain future due to funding challenges, the station continues to provide a sense of purpose, connection, and support for people across the city.

Liam Turner, Chief Executive at Salix Homes, said:

“Through our Springboard programme, we’re proud to support grassroots groups and projects that make a real difference across Salford. From inspiring young people and promoting healthier lifestyles, to giving local voices a platform and tackling loneliness, this year’s finalists are a fantastic showcase of community spirit in action.”

Residents are encouraged to vote for their favourite project before Tuesday 23 September. The winner will be announced shortly afterwards on Salix Homes’ Facebook page.
