Voluntary groups invited to apply for funding ahead of Salford's 100th anniversary as a city
Salford City Council has announced a £290,000 funding pot for local organisations to mark the city’s centenary in 2026 with community-led events and cultural activities.
The Salford Centenary Fund aims to support voluntary groups, social enterprises and council departments in delivering neighbourhood celebrations between April and December 2026, honouring 100 years since Salford officially became a city.
Grants of up to £1,000 are available to grassroots organisations, with larger grants of up to £10,000 on offer to more established groups with an annual turnover exceeding £10,000. The funding is expected to be highly competitive, with applications for ineligible amounts automatically rejected.
Eligible projects include street parties, creative workshops, performances, exhibitions, and cultural or heritage events. Activities must engage the community and help tell Salford’s story in new and inclusive ways. The fund also supports enhancements to existing projects that broaden participation or increase visibility.
Groups must be based in Salford or demonstrate a strong track record of delivery in the city. They must also have a bank account with at least two unrelated signatories and a signed governing document.
Unconstituted groups may apply in partnership with eligible organisations, though only one application per group will be considered at panel stage. Organisations that are unsuccessful may be invited to resubmit with a significantly different proposal.
Salford CVS is managing the application process on behalf of the council. Small grant applications will be reviewed throughout 2026, while large grant applications must be submitted by 12pm on Friday 13 February 2026.
A “Meet the Funder” session will offer guidance to applicants, who are also encouraged to contact the grants team for tailored support.
The funding forms part of a broader city-wide centenary programme, which will include exhibitions, tributes to local heroes, civic events, and community festivals.
