A 95-year-old woman was tied up and threatened in her own home during a daytime robbery attempt in Salford. Police are appealing for information as they search for a suspect described as being in his late 60s to early 70s.
Greater Manchester Police are investigating an attempted robbery at a property on Belcroft Drive in Little Hulton, where a man posing as a window cleaner entered a 95-year-old woman’s home and tied her hands before demanding money.
The suspect fled after a woman known to the victim arrived and confronted him. She was also grabbed but not seriously harmed. No injuries were reported, but the elderly victim is being supported by officers.
The incident occurred around 11am on Saturday 27 January. Police say extensive enquiries are ongoing, and a heightened police presence will remain in the area in the coming days.
Officers have issued a public appeal for any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the surrounding area, and are urging anyone who saw suspicious behaviour to come forward.
The man is described as white, in his late 60s to early 70s, with short mousy brown hair combed back. He was clean-shaven, wore glasses, and appeared well-groomed. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark raincoat, jeans, and dark shoes.
Detective Inspector Paul Davies from GMP’s Salford division described the incident as "vile", praising the actions of the woman who disrupted the robbery and called police.
“This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible,” he said. “Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady's friend.”
