A man has been jailed for three years and six months after assaulting two Greater Manchester Police officers during an arrest at Manchester Airport.
The sentence was imposed at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 26 June.
Greater Manchester Police said officers attended Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport on 23 July 2024 after receiving reports that a man had been headbutted.
Police said Mohammed Fahir Amaaz resisted arrest before assaulting PCs Lydia Ward and Ellie Cook.
PC Ward suffered a broken nose and required surgery. PC Cook suffered an injured jaw.
Both officers provided victim impact statements explaining the lasting consequences of the attack.
PC Ward said the injuries and events continued to affect her daily life.
PC Cook said the experience had caused trauma and had led her to leave her firearms role.
Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson said the officers had been responding to criminal behaviour when they were assaulted.
He added that assaults on police officers remained a regular occurrence across Greater Manchester and thanked members of the public who had offered support to the officers.
Greater Manchester Police said it would continue to cooperate fully with the Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation into the actions of officers involved in the incident.
