Bikers form ‘ring of red’ on M60 to honour Remembrance Sunday

Thousands of bikers took to the M60 on Sunday afternoon to form a striking ‘ring of red’ tribute, marking the 13th annual motorcycle memorial ride in honour of the UK’s Armed Forces.

Hundreds of riders gathered at Birch Services near Heywood today, Sunday 9 November, forming a sea of red as they rode in unity around Greater Manchester’s orbital motorway.

The mass ride is a staple of Remembrance commemorations in the region and sees participants don red attire or display poppies and military flags as a show of respect for those who have served or continue to serve in the Armed Forces.

The event, now in its 13th year, began at the M62 services and followed a pre-arranged lap of the full M60 circuit, with staggered ride-outs arranged to avoid major traffic disruption. Participants reconvened back at the service station for a post-ride gathering, some bringing along unique companions, including a giant teddy bear.

Organisers kept the event free to join, encouraging donations and merchandise purchases instead, which help raise funds for military charities including Veterans in Communities. a charity supporting ex-service personnel in East Lancashire.

Remembrance services and parades also took place across the region, including in Bury, Prestwich and Bolton, with communities turning out in numbers to pay tribute to the fallen.
