Barton and Winton ward by-election

A by-election for has been called on Wednesday 22 April 2026, to elect a new City Councillor for the Barton and Winton Ward.

This follows the untimely passing of Councillor David Lancaster MBE in February 2026, whose contribution to Salford spanned an extraordinary 60 years of public service.

How To Vote

In the UK there are three different ways you can vote:

Voter ID

The UK government requires all voters to show a photographic form of ID when voting at a polling station at some elections.

Visit the photo ID page on the Electoral Commission’s website for more details and to see the list of acceptable photo ID.

If you do not have one of the acceptable types of ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate on the government's website. You will need to provide a photograph with your application.

For more details including help and support locally in the city, please go to our voter ID webpage. For face to face help, residents can call into Eccles Gateway on Barton Lane on Monday to Thursday, 8am and 10pm, Friday 8am to 6.30pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.
